Manchester United and Liverpool will be disappointed come the end of the season as both sides will miss out on a top-four finish, according to Sky Sports’ predictor.

The stats-based algorithm tracks results, previous fixtures and the difficulty of upcoming games and believes Jose Mourinho’s side will finish above their arch-rivals in the table, although both will have to settle for Europa League football.

Instead, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Arsenal will occupy the top-four spots, with Arsene Wenger’s side pipping United and Liverpool to fourth spot, with the Gunners having a 61% likelihood of qualifying for the Champions League.

Liverpool, in contrast, are said to have just a 36% chance of landing a top-four spot after their woeful start to 2017, whilst Manchester United’s 15-game unbeaten run has only given them a 41% chance of returning to Europe’s elite competition.

Meanwhile, it’s bad news at the bottom for Crystal Palace, who are rated at a whopping 70% likelihood to be relegated, Hull City and Sunderland- with the latter failing to avoid the drop after surviving through the skin of their teeth in recent seasons.
